“If this isn’t nice, what is?” Fragments of Kurt Vonnegut’s philosophy of life

The pestilence and mass casualties of COVID-19 has augmented the menu of both minor and tragic woes on this blue planet. Though little more than a cipher in comparison to the death and destruction wrought by this virus, graduating college and secondary school students in the northern hemisphere, who for months have been separated from their classrooms and mates, are understandably moaning about the less-than-festive online ceremonies awaiting them at the terminus of their long courses of study.
